Hello to all,
It's almost spring so naturally, it's raining in the Willamette Valley. It may be sunny later. On many spring or pre-spring days, we get all the weather. It's actually good quilting weather as the sunshine beckons me outside and there's a bunch of weeding waiting for me. In a couple or three weeks we should have blooming tulips.
I believe I've mentioned in this space that I want to finish more quilts than I start this year. And I definitely am finishing quilts. However, this being the 250th anniversary of our country, I'm making the quilt below. It's from a book called A Country's Call which features Civil War Quilts. This one is on the cover and I just needed an excuse to make it.
It's nine blocks that finish at 18 inches. I've been cutting pieces on Friday afternoons and piecing the blocks on Saturday. All the fabric is from my stash and most of it is from scraps. The plan was to make the blocks and then arrange them, It's become obvious that just slapping them up on the design wall works just fine. The only plan is to make one with a blue star to put in the center as I have a son in the Marine Corps.
The quilt below just needs binding which is cut and ready to sew on. It's a hand appliquéd pattern from Pacific Rim Quilt Company. The top's been finished for years and I quilted it a few weeks ago.
I always thought I would eventually have a style. Fifty years in, I realize that I like all the things way too much to stick to a style.
The last picture is a cover for my Featherweight. Over the last two months, we've had our big bathroom remodeled. The whole 1983 vibe was just not cutting it anymore. Even though the guys were really careful, the dust is pretty bad. So the 75-year-old Featherweight got its own cover.
The center fabric is a Debbie Mumm. I so loved those fabrics and if they ever reprinted her fall and Halloween fabrics, I would really load up.
One thing I totally love about the Featherweight is that it sews so quietly. I'd forgotten that. I made lots of clothes in high school. It was great to have the style I wanted with the fabric I wanted. Mother wasn't ready to part with it, so I got a new machine when I was in college. That old Featherweight is such a work horse!
